The ‘‘Niaoulis’’ which the name is from the Greek Melaleuca= (black-white), are small trees with a whitish trunk that allotted on the hillsides of New Caledonia, often blackened by bush-fires. The foliage of these myrtles is light and persistent. They flower in May-June, with white spikes that give off a warm & bitter scent. For over a century, Niaouli has been used as a food additive and as an aid in the traditional medicine. |
